1 CHRONICLES 7
1 Now the sons of Issachar were, Tola, and Puah, Jashub, and Shimron, four.
Issachar - yissoshkharn
The 9th son born to Jacob, the 5th by his wife Leah (Gen 30:17-18).
Leah gave birth to Issachar after trading mandrakes (love plants Song 7: 13) for a night with Jacob; Gen 30:14-18). Like the names for her preceding four sons, the explanation Leah gives for the name Issachar reflects her anquished relationship with Jacob. Leah's interpretation plays on the Hebrew word meaning "to hire".
And Leah said, God hath given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his name Issachar - Gen 30: 18.
Jacob's blessing to Issachar appears to indicate he was a sturdy, hard laboring man in the field being. The recompense of fruitfulness of the fertile land of his inheritance encouraged him in his toil.
Issachar is a strong ass Couching down between two burdens:And he saw that rest was good, And the land that it was pleasant; And bowed his shoulder to bear,And became a servant unto tribute. Gen 49: 28, 14,15.
And the fourth lot came out to Issachar, for the children of Issachar according to their families
The allotment of land being Issachar's inheritance in the land of Canann comprised
..sixteen cities with their villages - Jsh 19: 17-23.
.
During the period of the judges, Issachar took part in Deborah and Barak's victory over Sisera (Judg 5:15). Later, Tola, a son of Issachar, served as a judge (Judg 10:1-2).
During the divided kingdom, two kings of Israel, Baasha and his son Elah, neither of them any good, came from Issachar (1 Kgs 15:27-16:14). Baasha reigned a turbulent 24 years warring with Judah and causing Israel to sin after the manner of Jeroboam. Therefore Yahweh pronounced the sentence...
I will take away the posterity of Baasha, and the posterity of his house; and will make thy house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
Issachar was among the northern tribes in the divided kingdom taken captive when the northern kingdom fell.
In the foundations of the holy city (Rev 21: 20) Issachar the 9th tribe (Rev 7: 7) is represented "for glory and for beauty" by the precious topaz stone.
